ABOUT ISED

origin and motto

ISED is a knowledge institution that considers ‘Enterprise & Entrepreneurship’ as tools for ‘Sustainable Development’. Its motto of “sustainable development through enterprise” has its foundations in the global thinking on ‘Sustainable Development’ since the late 1980s.

The origin of the Institute, on June 08, 1988, owes to the initiatives of a group of professionals and concerned citizens from various parts of India, along with the active helping hand of the Planning Commission, New Delhi.

ISED considers private enterprise as vital to sustainable economic development, and human capabilities emerging from creativity (or 'entrepreneurship' in a wider sense), makes it happen. Action for development of sustainable enterprises and entrepreneurship needs to be based on a holistic understanding of the process of development, on the one hand, and feedback on intelligent interventions, on the other. The whole process leads to knowledge creation. ISED programme and action are anchored on maintaining such knowledge base, and taking it to the people consistently.

mission

The United Nations agenda on ‘Sustainable Development’ offers the global framework for livelihoods and income opportunities today. While the 'right to livelihood' is a basic human right, people choose either wage employment or self-employment to meet this.

The mission of ISED is to advance the theory and practice of Sustainable Development, among enterprises and their various stakeholders: policy makers, financial institutions, promotional agencies, international partners, media, civil society and the community at large, through initiatives such as, research, development communication, and business development and advisory services.

ISED PROGRAMME

Enterprise and entrepreneurial capabilities form the engine of economic growth today in the modern world. How entrepreneurs are born and behave? What do they contribute to the economy? How does public policy and stakeholder interaction set the tone and tenor of enterprise growth? The Programme and activities of the Institute are tuned around such fundamental questions.
